Participation of the EREN Team at the International Congress of Nutrition in Paris

The International Congress of Nutrition (IUNS-ICN), held in Paris from August 25 to 29, 2025, brought together more than 3,800 experts from 117 countries to discuss key contemporary issues related to nutrition, health, sustainability, and food policy. The Nutritional Epidemiology Research Team (CRESS-EREN) — comprising researchers from Inserm, INRAE, the Cnam, Université Sorbonne Paris Nord, and Université Paris Cité — presented research work reflecting the team’s diversity and expertise, highlighting the key role of nutrition in human health.

The team’s participation revolved around several key events:

Scientific Symposia

  • Official launch of the World Network of NutriNet Studies:
An ambitious initiative aiming to connect participatory nutrition research cohorts worldwide, strengthen international scientific exchanges, and encourage the creation of new NutriNet studies. On this occasion, several international experts — including Prof. Carlos Monteiro, Prof. Benoît Lamarche, and Axelle Hoge — joined to foster a constructive dialogue on the challenges of establishing and developing nutrition cohorts.
  • Food and Health:
Presentations focused on plant-based diets, organic food consumption, the links between nutrition and cancer, as well as eating behaviors and their impact on public health.

Special Lecture

  • An in-depth analysis of ultra-processed foods and their effects on human health and the sustainability of food systems.

Oral Communications

  • Findings from the NutriNet-Santé cohort were presented, notably on:
  • Sustainable diets and their effects on mortality and chronic diseases
  • Innovative tools for monitoring consumption of plant-based alternatives
  • Meal timing and its relationship with metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk
  • Mindful eating and its effects on eating behaviors and body weight
  • Protective effects of organic food consumption on postmenopausal breast cancer risk

Short Oral and Poster (SOAP) Communications

Researchers also presented innovative results on:

  • The impact of food biodiversity on body weight and nutritional quality
  • Exposure to food additives and the risk of type 2 diabetes
  • Food insecurity among students, and the links between mental health and obesity

Scientific Poster

  • A study examining trade-offs between organic food consumption and land use, illustrating the intersection of environmental sustainability and nutritional health challenges.

Research in the Service of Sustainable and Preventive Nutrition

This participation highlights the diversity and quality of EREN’s research, deeply rooted in the major contemporary public health challenges. It also marks a key milestone in building a global participatory research network in nutrition, through the launch of the World Network of NutriNet Studies.

We warmly thank all NutriNet-Santé cohort participants for their commitment, without which these scientific advances would not have been possible.
