Infant feeding practices and body mass index up to 7.5 years in the French nationwide ELFE study
Data from the national Elfe cohort were used to analyze the associations between infant feeding and body mass index up to the age of 7.5.
We were able to highlight that children breastfed for more than 6 months had a lower body mass index at the age 1 year. However, contrary to previous findings from the literature, no beneficial effect of breastfeeding was found on the risk of overweight at 7.5 years of age. Early complementary feeding (before 4 months) was associated with a higher body mass index in childhood.
