The association between mental health status and opinions about vaccination in the Covid-19 context

Context / Job description:
The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) emerged in China in the end of 2019 and rapidly spread worldwide, resulting in a pandemic of unprecedented proportions. Infection with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) could result in a wide range of outcomes, ranging from an asymptomatic state to death. Immunization of the population through vaccination was quickly recognized as a public health priority. In France, approval of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 was obtained in December 2020. However, in the general population opinions about vaccination diverge. A specific COVID-19 research protocol was set up in April 2020 within the NutriNet-Santé cohort; it allowed the collection of a wide range of information about the participants’ experiences, practices and beliefs as they relate to the COVID-19 context.
Objective: To assess the cross-sectional association between mental health status (as measured by pure and comorbid anxiety and depression) and opinion regarding vaccination in the NutriNet-Santé cohort.
Data availability: All data necessary for the execution of this project have already been collected via self-report questionnaires. Opinions regarding vaccinations were measured with a single question; depression was measured with the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9); anxiety was measured with the General Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7); potential confounders (e.g., sex, age, education, marital status, employment status, etc.) were assessed at the same time (April-May 2020) as the main variables.
Missions – list of activities:
- preparation of an analysis plan;
- establishment of eligibility criteria for this analysis;
- selection of covariates based on theoretical and empirical evidence;
- data extraction from the main database as regards the exposures, outcome and confounding variables;
- data cleaning and recoding;
- calculation of the PHQ-9 and GAD-7 scores based on established criteria;
- selection of cohort participants with available data and preparation of a flowchart;
- descriptive (bivariate) analyses;
- main adjusted analysis based on linear regression models;
- identification of potential moderators based on theoretical and empirical evidence and tests for interaction;
- subgroup analyses (in case of significance of the interaction tests);
- sensitivity analyses;
- literature review on the topic;
- finalization of the results and tables;
- preparation of the manuscript.
Profile required:
Level: Master 2 or equivalent
Requirements:
- Language skills: Excellent command of French (recommended) and advanced ability to read/write in English (required)
- Bibliographic skills: Excellent knowledge of Pubmed/Medline; knowledge of any additional bibliographic databases is a plus
- Statistical analysis skills: Excellent knowledge of SAS and/or R
- Personal skills: excellent organization, ability to work independently and as part of a team, intellectual curiosity and rigor
Supervision: Valentina A. ANDREEVA, Ph.D., H.D.R. The intern will undergo training as regards the NutriNet-Santé database and as regards scientific writing
Type of recruitment: Master 2 internship (contract funded by the ANR)
Duration of employment: 6 months
