Thesis abstract:
This PhD project aims to study changes in childbirth among women with a previous caesarean section. First, we will analyse trends over time and identify individual, organisational, and regional factors associated with attempting a vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC) and with its success. This analysis will be based on data from six successive French National Perinatal Surveys conducted in 1995, 1998, 2003, 2010, 2016, and 2021. We will then examine the relationship between childbirth conditions in the context of a single uterine scar and postpartum depression, which currently affects nearly 17% of women after childbirth. This research may help identify areas for improvement to inform future national guidelines on childbirth management for women with a previous caesarean section. The project addresses major and current issues in perinatal health and public health, particularly given the high prevalence of mental health disorders and their potentially serious consequences. Finally, we will analyse maternal healthcare use during the year following childbirth in women with a scarred uterus, using linked data from the 2021 National Perinatal Survey and the French National Health Data System (SNDS).
