Inserm researchers from the EPOPé and EARoH teams have developed new growth charts for weight, height, body mass index and head circumference, for girls and boys. They were obtained from approximately 5,000,000 recent measurements of children aged 0 to 18, whereas the previous charts were based on a few hundred children born in the 1950s. The new charts take into account the morphological changes of the population and facilitate the identification of growth anomalies. They accompany messages to parents and doctors about the importance of regular monitoring of growth and the parameters to be taken into account in interpreting children growth
